The City

0 min read
The Arlington Southwest Nature Preserve sits on an anomaly of space and time.  Residing on the border of Arlington's rural past and the unchecked sprawl of the present, the park mixes untamed land with the gradual development of neighboring Kennedale. When the land was acquired in 2003, the abandoned cars and derelict summer homes must been a glimpse into the distant history of Arlington.  Since 2006 the land has seen little improvement, but now that the city has committed resources to make the park more accessible.  This should help preserve the 58-acre site and give the land purpose.

Exploration

0 min read
After taking my mom out to breakfast/lunch for mother's day, my friend Jens went to the Arlington Southwest Nature Preserve.  It's a large tract of land on the west side of the city that has been left as rather untamed wilds for the public to explore.  I loved it. As we explored, we came across 4 separate bodies of water, a bizarre drainage system, the foundation of an old house, and a bluff that manages to look over downtown Fort Worth.  We explored a good portion of it without seeing all of it.  I'm surprised something like this exist in Arlington. I definitely plan on going back and seeing more of what it has to offer.

Okay so I'm now a week into my daily self-portrait project.  I was originally doing a daily photo project during the summer, but that fell apart as school began and I lost the enthusiasm.  But now I'm shooting a much beloved (by myself AND America) subject, so I plan to stick with this one until the end.  I got the inspiration after seeing the radiant Lauren Lemon shoot through her 365.  So I'm sticking with this one, even if I don't actually update my journal much.
